The Rio Youth-Plex Pavilion, located near the intersection of Canales Bros. (3rd Street) and Fairgrounds Road in Rio Grande City, TX is now into its seventh month of operation and is a hub not only for youth, but other community events as well. Girl Scout Troop 558, RGC Little League and Jaycees and many CACST functions utilize the spacious premises at the Rio YouthPlex. To support its operations, approximately $9000 has been raised by the YouthPlex through fundraisers, concession sales, memberships and other revenues, including rentals for birthday parties and wedding receptions. The Rio YouthPlex Pavilion is staffed with a combination of CACST staff, WorkForce participants and volunteers. Community donations have provided the YouthPlex with computers, sports equipment, books and snacks. The YouthPlex is also a satellite site for the local school district (RGCCISD) and its summer food program, which provides breakfast and lunch to kids at the YouthPlex. The 11,000 sq.ft. complex includes a main building with areas designated for the arts, gaming, and computers as well as an outdoor sports court designed for regulation basketball or volleyball competition. The vision behind this project was creation of a center that will foster future community leaders through development and involvement of the youth, focusing on their needs, interests, and critical issues.

Academics, tutoring, sports and games such as basketball and volleyball, computer access, weight training, foosball, pool tables, a library and career exploration opportunities are now available for youth in Rio Grande City! Drama, music and visual art programs with an emphasis on local culture along with wellness resources on substance abuse awareness, peer pressure, teen pregnancy prevention and child abuse are also part of the educational focus of the Youth-Plex. The Rio YouthPlex will be accessible during the school year primarily in the early afternoon, and all day during the summer. Partners and other programs may schedule evenings in the Youth-Plex.
